The Beekeeper

The Beekeeper

The Beekeeper - Documentary Film 107 Minutes 2013. A moving portrait of Ibrahim Gezer, a Kurdish beekeeper and refugee who lost everything and starts anew in Switzerland.

Synopsis

Meeting Ibrahim Gezer is a deeply moving experience. He is a man who has endured immeasurable suffering, violence, and pain in his life, yet has remained sensitive, gentle, and warm-hearted. A father to many children, a successful entrepreneur as a honey producer, and a respected member of his home community, the Kurdish beekeeper became caught up in the Kurdish-Turkish civil war in the 1990s. Two of his children fell in battle, his wife committed suicide, he lost all his possessions, and had to hide underground for seven years before managing to flee to his children and grandchildren in Switzerland. Here, through his love and passion for beekeeping, he finds new support, meaning in life, and above all new friends – Swiss friends. The mountains serve as the backdrop for getting to know Ibrahim Gezer and his work as a beekeeper through the seasons: the mountains in Kurdistan and the Uri Alps. The film showcases the impressive landscapes in wide shots, accompanied by music composed especially for the film.
